Your first hour: the tutorial
What this does
/start creates your account and drops you into a guided
sequence teaching the core loop: collect parts, build a ship, mint a Ship Title,
and race. Until the tutorial finishes, most commands are locked — only the commands
each step asks for will respond.
Prerequisites
- A Discord server with at least one enabled system (see Setting up D2D in your server).
- No existing account —
/startresponds “You already have an account!” if you’ve already run it.
Step-by-step walkthrough
1. /start — pick your hull class
Run /start and click one of three hull-class buttons within 60 seconds:
| Hull class | Crew slots |
|---|---|
| 🚛 Hauler | 3 — Pilot, Engineer, Navigator |
| ⚔️ Skirmisher | 2 — Pilot, Gunner |
| 🔭 Scout | 2 — Pilot, Navigator |
Hull class is permanent. It sets which crew archetypes your ship can carry and its cosmetic identity. Race format is determined by your parts’ stats later, not this choice.
After your pick, three story beats play and you receive seven starter parts — one per build slot. The tutorial advances to step 2 automatically.
2. /inventory
Run /inventory to see the seven parts you just received.
The tutorial advances to step 3.
3. /inspect
Run /inspect on any card to read its full stats. Copies of
the same card roll slightly different numbers. The tutorial advances to step 4.
4. /equip — fill all 7 slots
Use /equip to install parts one slot at a time
(Reactor, Drive, Thrusters, Hull, Stabilizers, Retros, Overdrive), or use
/autoequip with “Best (highest rarity)” to fill all
slots at once. The tutorial advances to step 5 once all seven are filled.
5. /build preview → /build mint
Run /build preview to see which race format your parts
are trending toward, then /build mint to lock in your
Ship Title. Minting seals the Reactor and Hull slots — swap Thrusters, Retros,
Stabilizers, and Overdrive freely afterward. Replacing a core part requires
/build disassemble and re-minting.
6. /hangar
Run /hangar to review your ship, title, and slots.
The tutorial advances to step 7.
7. /race — first run
Use /race to challenge another player (they must accept).
Sprint is open to all builds; Endurance and Gauntlet are gated by your derived
class. Win or lose, the race counts — a Salvage Crate arrives automatically
after it finishes.
8. Tutorial complete
A closing sequence plays. You keep your starter parts as permanent cards, receive
the Salvage Crate contents, and earn 1,000 Creds. To skip the whole sequence,
/skip_tutorial jumps you to this same reward state.
What “success” looks like
- The closing sequence played and all commands now respond.
/hangarshows a minted Ship Title with a name and serial number.- Your Creds balance includes the 1,000-Cred tutorial grant.
/pack,/daily, and/marketall respond — they were locked during the tutorial.
Common gotchas & troubleshooting
“You already have an account!”
You’ve run /start before. If your tutorial is still in
progress, continue from whatever step you’re on.
“Hold on, your story’s still unfolding. Sit tight.”
The intro story beats are still playing after /start.
Wait for them to finish before using other commands.
“Easy there. Use /inventory first…”
Any command except /inventory is blocked at step 2.
Run /inventory to proceed.
“Parts on the floor don’t make the ship fly. Use /equip or /autoequip best to install them.”
You’re at the equip step but tried another command. Use /equip
or /autoequip to fill your slots.
“You’ve got parts but haven’t looked at them. Try /inspect on one of your cards first.”
Every command except /inspect (and /inventory) is blocked at this step.
Run /inspect on any card to continue.
“You’ve got a salvage crate to open. Patience.” Your race already finished and the salvage crate reveal is playing inline as part of the post-race sequence. You tried another command while it was still rendering. Just sit tight — the crate opens on its own; no command needed.
