Build a ship, launch an expedition

What this does

The build loop turns raw parts into a named Ship Title; the expedition loop sends that ship on a timed run that pays out resources and triggers mid-run events you can influence.

Prerequisites

  • Tutorial complete. (Onboarding guide)
  • Parts in your inventory. Use /daily (24-hour cooldown, free full set + 100 Creds) or /pack to get more.
  • At least one crew member hired. The /daily reward always surfaces today’s free lead — run /hire to claim them.

Step-by-step walkthrough

1. Fill all seven part slots

Open /inventory to see what you have. Parts fill seven slots: Reactor, Drive, Thrusters, Hull, Retros, Stabilizers, and Overdrive.

Equip one slot at a time with /equip slot card_name, or fill all empty slots at once with your highest-rarity parts:

/autoequip mode:Best (highest rarity)

Run /hangar to confirm all seven slots show a part.

2. Preview and mint a Ship Title

Run /build preview to see which race format your current loadout trends toward — Sprint, Endurance, or Gauntlet — before locking anything in.

When ready, run /build mint. The bot assigns a race format, generates a name, and stamps the build with a serial number. All seven slots must be filled to mint.

After minting, the Reactor and Hull slots are locked. You can still swap Drive, Thrusters, Retros, Stabilizers, and Overdrive freely. To rebuild from scratch, run /build disassemble — this scraps the title but returns all parts to your inventory.

3. Assign crew through your Hangar room

Open your home base with /base and enter the Hangar. Select your ship from the build list, then use the crew slot buttons to assign crew members to the open archetype slots.

Crew slots depend on your hull class:

Hull classSlots
🚛 Hauler3 — Pilot, Engineer, Navigator
⚔️ Skirmisher2 — Pilot, Gunner
🔭 Scout2 — Pilot, Navigator

You can also run /hangar for inline crew controls, or use /assign to assign a crew member by name.

4. Launch an expedition

Run /expedition start, pick a template from the autocomplete list, then pick your ship. The ship and crew must be idle and meet the template’s minimums. The bot confirms with an ETA timestamp.

You can run up to 2 expeditions at the same time. A ship is locked for the duration — you cannot equip parts or re-assign crew while it is out.

Check progress at any time with /expedition status.

5. Respond to events and collect results

During the run, mid-expedition events fire as Discord buttons on the bot’s message. Click a choice to commit your response — you have a 30-minute window before the scene auto-resolves with its default option.

You can also respond by slash command: /expedition respond expedition scene choice.

When the timer expires the bot posts the results. Resources, Creds, and crew XP land in your account automatically.

What “success” looks like

  • /hangar shows a minted title with a name, serial, and race format.
  • /expedition status shows the run’s ETA (or “No active expeditions” once done).
  • Resources appear in your stockpile after the run ends.

Common gotchas & troubleshooting

“Fill all 7 slots before minting. Missing: …” Use /equip or /autoequip to fill the listed slots.

“Build <name> is busy until it returns from expedition — can’t modify it right now.” The ship is out. Wait for it to complete, then equip or mint. Check the ETA with /expedition status.

“You’re at the max active expedition limit (2/2). Wait for one to complete.” You already have 2 expeditions running. Let one finish before launching another.

<template> needs at least N of {archetype}…” The template requires a crew archetype that isn’t assigned (or the crew member is injured/busy). Assign the right crew via the Hangar room or /assign, then retry.

“Too late — that scene already auto-resolved.” You responded after the 30-minute window closed. The scene picked its default outcome; the expedition continues normally.

“Your build already has a Ship Title. Use /build disassemble first to rebuild.” Run /build disassemble to scrap and restart, or open a new build slot with /build new (costs 500 Creds).
